I picked up a Video CD Saturn to play with. I heard they're a variation of the Euro version card and won't run games that require the card. This is basically true. It looks like the Euro card but runs in a Japanese machine. Lunar gets past the card check but hangs with a black screen after the three splash screen logos.

    My question is why?
The MPEG bits have identical part numbers and the boards are nearly identical. The only difference I see is the BIOS in the card from the VCD system is SOP instead of PLCC and there's an extra ram chip on the back. Has anyone ever tried changing the BIOS and maybe disabling the extra RAM?

Also, the BIOS dumps I found say the Video CD BIOS has never been dumped. Is anyone interested in a dump if I end up swapping it out. Or apparently there's a way to dump it from the Saturn but that actually sounds like more work.
