I went through a stint (after Street Fighter Alpha was released) where I had the necessary thumb calluses to handle lengthy bouts on the PS D-pad, but those days are long gone. I recently bought Capcom Vs SNK 2 and after only an hour my office softened hands were in great pain.

    What have I become? :crying:

I think my friend said something similar that the guy on the left said at one time. I think he was trying to make me mad, though.

OT - I can't believe I am hearing this! Duel Shock for fighters, insanity!

It is all about the arcade stick, once you go to an arcade stick you will never go back. Your timing will improve with the ease of access to buttons, 2 button presses will become easier, Z shapes, no pain, etc. I mean how do you roman cancel in guilty gear xx? Fighters were "made" for arcade sticks - anything else is just plain wrong.

Of course this is a scary road, because once you go arcade stick you keep looking for the best parts. Now I can't play anything without seimitsu or sanwa at my fingertips...

Which stick did you use? I bought the Namco arcade stick and I couldn't get on with it at all, in fact it stayed in the box after a few weeks. That microswitch clicking was very annoying too. I did see some nice giant dual player arcade board set-ups on Liksang back in the day though.

Does anyone have an experience with them?

Taucius - If you want the best splash out on a hori real arcade pro - the parts in it are solid enough, but the best news is that you can replace them with proper Sanwa or Seimitsu parts when you want. (And it is very easy to do so) Infact Hori sell them with Sanwa/Seimitsu parts already installed through their online store.

If you are feeling less spendy grab any lower end Hori stick with the right button layouts - they are quite good these days. I mainly use two modded sticks - one set in a square and very loose (sanwa) for shooters and one Sammy built octagonal for fighters. Plus the best thing is that it prepares you for when you are playing for "real" in an Arcade.

I still say the best method is the modded Agetec DC stick. Get a DC stick, rip everything out, dremmel down the holes, put in Sanwa/Seimitsu parts, and solder them to a PS2 controller PCB. It has the Japanese button layout, and I'll take a plastic base over a wooden one any day. I got right in the middle of one not long ago, which would be PS2 and Supergun friendly, but never finished. Got the buttons in, and haven't done shit since. :( Maybe I'll get back on that.

The Shoryuken.com forums are also a great source. All in all, you should be able to get the Sanwa stick + buttons for under $50 USD shipped, even in the UK. (There's a guy at shoryuken.com and shmups that has fantastic prices). The Agetec stick outside of Japan might get pricey though. I got lucky and bought a 6 refurbs on Ebay for $18. Shipping to the island was $30 though.
