A while back I bought this multi SCART block, since I've got one SCART-RGB port on my TV and all my consoles use RGB cables. It only cost a fiver, and to be honest I should have known better since it's been hassle ever since. Using it seems to degrade video quality to around composite level, causes frequent colour shifting, and goes into ~10 seconds of flickering every now and again. When I pulled it out this morning the metal casing on the SCART port broke. A complete waste of money. What's the best solution? Does anyone have any positive experience with a particular product that they'd recommend?
There's got to be at least a few people here who have multiple consoles connected to their SCART TV. What are you all using to do it?
Yeah all my consoles are hooked up by RGB as well, even the old 360. Now I do use one of those scart blocks, however I never hook up more than one console at once. As you say it messes the quality right up, for example if I plug in my PS2 and DC, the PS2 goes fuzzy and the DC goes VERY dark, even when the DC is not plugged in or visa versa. Anyway, after a while I just gave up! So all I do is have that scart block plugged into my TV so that I can access it easily and change RGB cables without moving the TV. If I only have one console plugged into it I don't see any loss in quality - my block cost about 15 quid with "gold" connectors etc. I have just got used to plugging in each console every time I use it. I have to plug the consoles into a step-down converter anyway, so it is just another part of the routine.
Argos has a scart splitter thats meant to be good. You should check google groups and you will find lots of posts about it.
Mine is a £5 "auto switching" block from ebay. 5 Sockets. Works well enough, and I don't notice and dodginess in PQ, but then again, I have a shit TV. The auto switching is rubbish though, all it means is that it has no switching hardware and just connects all devices into the same output, basically a bundle of wires (I believe, But I haven't opened it up to check). This obviously means turning more than one console on gets the TV confused, but one console alone is decent enough. I just wish the plugs didn't always wiggle out of the sockets, it's quite frustrating.
