Ok i have a small 14' LG tv, it's pretty old (10+ years) but it works and basically i don't need anything more as i don't watch tv. I have tried to plug my consoles to the scart socket that has but i have sound but no picture. I made some research and i found out that maybe the tv was getting a bad signal related to pin 16, something about Blanking. 1) So i bought a cheap scart cable with all the pins on. 2) I plug the cable to a dvd player that outputs composite or rgb. 3) I test my TV and i have rolling image and sound. 4) I test the same cable/dvd player to another crt tv and it works fine. Well i think that the tv has some sort of problem but i would like an advice from the pro's. Thanks.
On some older TV's you have to manually select the A/V input. Have a look on the remote or front panel for an A/V button (on some TV's channel zero is often the A/V input). If it's doing the same with a composite (50Hz) signal, try giving the SCART plug a wiggle. There may be dust build-up on the connector, or dry solder joints on the socket itself.
Indeed, make sure you press the AV button (may look like a rounded rectangle with and arrow going into it). If you still get no picture then it may be likely that the TV does not support RGB scart.
When the dvd player outputs rgb the tv get's automatically to av mode and that is when i see the rolling picture. When the dvd player outputs composite i press the av button on the remote and i can only hear from the tv.
A rolling picture suggests it's not switching properly. Maybe you have a poor SCART lead, or there's an issue somewhere that's not giving the correct voltage to the switching pin. Try the AV button to switch correctly. You're not using a multi-SCART block, are you? You can get interference from other SCART devices, which would do this.
I am not using a multi scart block. I tried to connect my dreamcast with composite cable to a scart adapter and a ps1 with a scart cable (it has also composite inputs for an av cable). Ok, how can i measure the current on pin 16 ? I have a multimeter but if you can suggest a method it would be helpful.
If you are plugging in a console using a composite cable and it is going into a scart block and you have press the AV button and you are getting no picture but sound then it sounds like the SCART socket is broken in some way (probably some of the tracks from the socket to the pcb have broken due to stress of plugging in and out over the years). You should get a picture by selecting AV and plugging in a Composite video signal, you seemed to have tried at least 2 leads too. The rolling picture in RGB mode shows that the SCART socket is not completely broken but you are not getting any Composite Sync. You could either buy another cheap SCART TV and in greece that should not be that hard, else you can get someone to resolder / repair the socket.
