Today I learn instead of doing GSCE English Lit and then Movie studies I will be resitting my English exam I already did (I took it early) and passed (Got a C) and will probably only get to do English Lit. So instead of Maximizing my amount of GCSE's they'd rather have me redo 2 or 3 months of work (which requires after school work when I could be revising for subjects I struggle with)for an Exam I already passed in the slim chance I might get a higher grade. ... Brilliant. Its not even the fucking english department thats chosen this. Its the new head. Nobody had a flying fuck who he was before he came because he came from somewhere else. He now gains full control of the school despite there being one teacher who everyone in the school Likes. He is firm but fare. Doesn't take any shit and shouts but is well liked and respected throughout the school. I don't even think the school council had any choice in who became the new head.
Not to be rude, but maybe someone else has a similar experience and wants to discuss it here in the general forum.
We've had threads about GCSEs, school etc lately and this would fit fine in one of those. If everyone began a new thread for every minor grievance in their life this place would be a fucking mess. EDIT: maybe I'm just being a dick after a long day. Eh.
1) If you're not pleased that the school thinks you could do better, and they are willing to spend money to prove it, you're a bit strange. 2) If you're happy with a C in a course you intend to take forward to A-Level - again, you're a bit strange. 3) Don't do an A-Level just for the sake of it. Actually look at it and decide what you can do with it in later life. If the only reason you're doing it is 'your mates are doing it', don't do it. If there isn't an A-Level you want to do, question whether you can achieve what you want to achieve in an apprenticeship scheme or similar practical training. 4) Seriously, Film Studies is a waste of time. Sure it sounds a-maz-ing when you're 16 (yay, get to watch stuff at school/college), but learn from my mistakes. I woke up after 2 years of a university Media course and suddenly questioned what I was doing with my life, surrounded by flakes and 'artists'. I looked at my options and decided to do something worthwhile. I quit my course, switched to a course with a career path, started making films off with a bunch of friends and haven't looked back. Honestly, do something worthwhile with your life - grab a camera, go outsude and start making films with your buddies rather than learning about how other people did it, fawning over shots, edits and directors. It's worthless, and you can learn more in the field than from a textbook. 5) I agree with Alchy, this is an odd place to ask for advice. Still, many people here have had to make the same decisions as you, so I guess you'll get as reasonable help as anyone else can give you!
I disagree with not doing A-levels and taking a job. Any A-level is better than no A-levels. With regards to GCSE, most people would be pleased to be able to resit a subject for free. Quality, not quantity. You might get a B or A, which to an employer will look much better than two Cs.
Yeah, I realise whilst re-reading my post that what I meant was a little too 'don't do anything'. What I meant was to review alternative pathways to a career you want to do, such as apprenticeship schemes.
1. I admire that they have faith in me that I can do better but I busted my ass off to get that C and it was below my target grade anyway. I honestly don't think I can get higher. 2. I I aren't wanting to take it at A-Level. English pisses me off to the max. 3. I wouldn't ever go with the masses. Just because its the popular thing to do I won't take what everyone else is doing. Im aiming to take ICT at A level and Humanities and something else. What exactly I have no Idea. 4. It sounds interesting and thats why I'd prefer to do it. I don't want to take it at A level. Thanks for all your help. Just as an Afterword. I wan't to edit video later in life as its weirdly one of the things I enjoy. Be it going out and recording video and seeing how I can edit it (I arent one of those FLASHY SHIT IS KOOL! kind of people) Without making it overkill or stupid.
I have to agree it is odd that he wants you resit the exam considering you passed. Saying that, a better grade in an English GCSE is, in almost all cases, going to be valued far more highly than any grade in Movie Studies (I guess this is similar to what was known as Media Studies back in my day?) should you choose to apply for university.
