I can't believe I'm actually having to point it out, but anyway, it's not the swearing that makes GTA an 18+ game. It's the content: fucking hookers and then beating them to death with a baseball bat to get your money back. I'm pretty lax about what age groups should be allowed to see what stuff, but even I don't think it's appropriate for kids to be playing that.

And I don't know what you're on about re: swearing on TV, there's plenty of swearing on TV here.

That doesn't really address my concern, which is the obvious conflict of interest. Self-regulation by profit-motivated corporations is just inherently dodgy to my mind.

 

Alchy: there are three Danish tv channels that are sent/broadcast to Denmark, from the UK and they have to obey the censor rules of UK, when it comes to curses and what not until a given time of the day. And that means, that I have to hear blepeps and blops from both Danish and English curses, which is to me ridiculous.

 

Ah the watershed! Swearing, violence or sexual content isn't allowed before 21:00 - unless it has artistic or educational merit. There are similar conventions in many countries, including the US.

It looks like Viasat broadcast from the UK so they have greater freedom when it comes to advertising - if you feel hard done by you should take it up with them.

I agree that the whole nunchuk ban was absurd in the extreme - even films rated 18 weren't exempt - poor Michaelangelo. It could have been worse your games could have come from Germany ... "sweat", "green blood", no Swatzstikas etc.

It seems our American cousins are lucky that they have protection from knee-jerk reactions by policiticians based on public opinion when it comes to video games.

 

AtarianUK: well I sent an email to one of the guys from kanal 4/kanal 5 and 6eren , and they said they had to obey the laws of UK, even though he was sorry that it ruined some of the good old Danish TV shows that they had made years before, where it was NOT censored , and probably not sent from UK. But yeah, it is great that I live in Denmark where we do not get that much censored, and seeing bare tits and a hairy cunt is not something we get too riled up about. But actually we did get some censored games last year, instead of the uncensored. So we are still getting shafted from some where else, who still does not get the word, a sovereign nation. But hey then we as Danes can always import, with the customs are getting totally freaky and crazy about it
Here we can get all the games and what not uncensored which is pretty good
And well, let us not dwell in that for now, since I have had my fair share of fights about the true Danish very laid back style of being, in comparison to the influence some guys are thinking is the true way of being a Dane (yo fucking government I am talking about, and your fucking Nazi support party).

Anyway my "true" Danish view upon things is this, open mindedness , welcoming, uncensored , and honest to the bone, and some body give me a joint ;-)
