I stumbled upon this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rg-E2jXVx5k (thank goodness for Youtube). I actually bought one of these back in the day instead of a Sega machine and it worked well enough. It didn't have the cartridge built in though, sadly. Did anyone else in the UK own one and if so, did it come with a game built in?
Never seen one in real life before, nor heard of UK people owning one. I'm a little surprised that Bad Influence would show dodgy goods, don't seem to remember that sort of stuff being on the show, but then I barely remember anything about it to be honest...
It was sold in the video games dept of Beaties and that is where I got it. I asked the guy who sold it to me about the free game but he didn't have a clue. It was cheaper than the Megadrive though and meant we could buy it with Sonic 2, so it wasn't a deal breaker. Later on we bought a 007 Megadrive game on the cheap from there and it was missing the internals of the cartridge, just the shell. Bastards! We took the game back though, of course.
What was Beaties, again? I've probably shopped there a few times before now, my memory is hopeless on such matters. Did they sell much other pirate goods?
I nearly bought one of these on the way to ECTS. It was the ECTS when the PSOne (white small one) hadn't come out in Europe, and had only been out a few weeks in Japan, so work the date out from that. It was at a huge boot fair. My boss saw it and told me. We went back to find it, but it had gone, or we couldn't find it cuz the field was too damn big!
There are two versions of the Scorpion (one smaller than the other from what I remember) but both do the same job. I saw the original one (show on Bad Influence) but I have no idea it was a British made system since the one I saw was caked in Arabic !! I was always under the impression that it came from the middle east. Yakumo
I think it is a Hong Kong clone myself, I don't think Andy Crane was correct there. It was distributed by a British company over in the UK though, together with type-writer style instructions! It will plug into the MegaCD but as they state, not the 32X. There is also a small 8bit Famiclone Scorpion called 'Scorpion VIII'.
I think I have read about that clone before the youtube clip. http://segaclone.emucamp.com/clones/oldscorpionxvi/scorpionxvi.htm http://segaclone.emucamp.com/clones/scorpionxvi/scorpionxvi.htm And I have just read, that a Japanese X32 could possible work with the Scorpion by the way. taken from the badi influence site
I've got one of the Scorpion XVIs shown on Bad Influence, anyone interested in buying it drop me a PM
