Bought a PS2 recently and it has this installed. I don't have a stepdown to hand but I was wondering what this was likely to be. Only an 8 leg PIC.
Could you provide a closer pic on the soldier area of the board and also where the wires are going to? that should help abit =)
I can't help with a better picture right now, I only have a Vita for camera after all. It's just a standard 8 pin PIC like a PS1 chip would use. Similar points as a NEO-2 or something.
I think that it's too simple to be a PlayStation 2 modchip. I heard that it's possible to use a PlayStation modchip on a PlayStation 2 console, although that would only allow PlayStation discs to be booted. Perhaps this is one such case? I don't think that any early PlayStation 2 modchips supported the GH-001. Newer ones should also connect to the expansion connector on the mainboard. I believe that it's because they have to do something about the logo that rom0S2LOGO finds on the disc, since newer boot ROMs will fall back to the browser if a valid "PlayStation 2" logo cannot be found.
