Hi, I was wondering if anyone out there knew is this version ps2 can be modded? fmcb in particular? what is the process? have no disks with the unit. also i would like to use the hdd addon unit, i think that comes with all disks. thanks in advance
Mine's modded - can't remember which chip but it's got something in it... actually, it's gone through the entire history of mods, starting with the "kick the disc tray out and quickly put a boot in it", flick the power button three times, etc... then god knows what manner of chips over the years until it got one of the latest ones installed. It's certainly been through a few wars, let's put it like that. Still works, last I checked, but the laser was never anything special to start with so it's best to get the HDLoader set up - or, as Assember says, keep it as a collectible and use another machine.
I have a thread on the SCPH 15000 model here http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/scph-15000-mod-chip.49865/
FMCB v1.94 fully supports this model, including installing all necessary kernel updates. What do you have? You can: 1. use another console to install FMCB. 2. Use the independence exploit to install FMCB. In my opinion, don't mod it. When you mod a system, you expose its components to a risk of damage by the modchip. This console isn't too common outside of Japan either. Anyway, the laser is a KHS-400A. It's not the best laser out there and it's not going to be easy to replace with another one.
