I read that an SCPH-18000 setup is compatible, so I'm guessing it wont be long until 10000's are supported too. I'm not at all knowledgeable about HDLoader, so I would like to know how it all works. I'd be very interested in using it with my setup if and when it becomes possible to do so. I have many retail PS2 discs, and I could do with freeing up some storage space. My 10000 is still stock. Would it need to be chipped to be compatible with HDLoader? How many games would the 40GB HDD be able to hold, and is it possible to put a larger capacity HDD inside the Sony casing? I have HDD Utility Disc version 1.00, and PSBBN version 0.32. I'm interested in running HDLoader directly from the PS2 browser as seen in l_olivera's YT video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sNDZAU37TA I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me in regards to getting this up and running.
Things regarding the PS2 HDD OSD are still in development. As of now. installing such launcher on the PS2 HDD involves hooking it on a PC and doing some tinkering with software such as WinHex or other raw disk access tools. In a few we may have homebrewn tools that do automatic install of such bootable items on the HDD. For now, regarding just playing HDL games on the 10k you may PM Silverbull on this very forum. Oh and please don't modchip your PS2. There's no need to.
I was hoping you would reply, thanx for that. So do you think I should wait until things have developed further? I'd really be wanting to launch direct from the browser. I'm quite ok with playing games from disc at the moment, I'd just want to run my games from the HDD in the future so I can then sell them off to gain some storage space. I'm only interested in NTSC-J format titles too, so I guess I don't need a modchip.
I was interested on booting stuff from the PS2 HDD OSD (a.k.a. Browser 2.0) as well, but like l_oliveira said it's still under dev. Anyway, have you tried to use fmcb to load games from the hdd. I don't know if it works with 10000. l_oliveira, any chances of E P or dlanor adding the possibility of creating PP partitions on ulaunchelf?
I've not tried. I'm pretty new to this kind of thing as I was always under the impression that I my setup wouldn't be compatible with HDL etc.
I've submitted to Dlanor the changes I did to uLE sources so he know what to change. Still, need to fix some things up before releasing such changes as they allow people to do some harmful things which could result on data loss. The changes include: -Ability to browse the "__contents" partition created by PSBBN. - Ability to create application partitions. (PP.xxxx-xxxxxx) - Ability to rename existing partitions. - Ability to browse password locked partitions.
I see. Maybe have this ability somehow locked (advanced users only) or needing some kind of password or a confirmation screen (with big bold letters). Anyway, congrats on all work / discoveries.
Remember to thank Silverbull for most of the achievements I have shown on these youtube videos.
No, more like the earliest. 10k have missing things on it's ROM which make it difficult to run homebrewn. The 18000 have a PS2 rom which is very similar to a launch US console which is the bare minimum to run the current homebrewn correctly. Silverbull figured some workarounds for the 10k issues so his software is compatible with them but Open PS2 Loader are not. While we're not talking openly about what Silverbull is cooking, it's not like a US military secret or anything similar ... It's just something tasty ... Appetizers will show up eventually on my YT channel.
Basically, Silverbull wanted to make an optical disc emulation software he could use to play games on his PS2 TOOL. Because the PS2 TOOL is just a 10k console with expanded memory and a linux PC stacked to it, the same software were easily modified to run on an retail 10k or TEST (debugstations) with the DTL-H20400 drive. It happens to work fine on the retail console and SCPH-20400/SCPH-10190 combo as well. This is a summary of the current situation. Oh and the hack I did to launch uLE from the HDD OSD would help you as it would save you from having to use that lame PS1 exploit to boot homebrewn. Anyway, if you want to run Open PS2 Loader with your external PS2 HDD, all you need is find a PCMCIA console with updated bios (SCPH-18000) and I can provide you with a PCMCIA compatible elf. For now the 10k is not compatible. And yes, the ancient bios on the 10k cause trouble even for SONY. That's why they update/patch it using the memory card.
I am about to become the proud owner of a DTP-T10000H and I am curious if HDL games will work on there. Please forgive any obvious oversights, I was out of the scene for most of PS2 and have been back for PSP and shall remain. Anyway, I am very new to understanding the DTP-T10000H, and so am curious on this one. Any other links or anything that have good info on that particular devkit/console would be lovely as well. Regards, npt
