OK, I have a SCPH 1001. When I got it, it was supposedly barely used. I got it modded without really playing it. Came back, and it just skipped and had audio problems and all that. Serious problems with backups too. So, I bought another SCPH 1001, had it gutted for it's laser....and now the system works fine with retail games. US and JP. But it's a mess when it comes to backups....Unless I turn it upside down. Weak laser, right? Well, what kind of laser should I get for this? I know I need one with the metal instead of the plastic. Also, are there any folks on here that are known for this(that have good feedback, and do a nice job)? Or is it easy to do one's self? I have no soldering skills at all. Are the Chinese knockoff lasers better than these? I can't seem them being worse? Anyway....help?
To save yourself from getting Chinese knockoff lasers, buy a slim SCPH-101 (the white PSone)and swap the lasers between your 1001 and the slim PS1,and you're done,no calibration needed.
It's not that easy, he will still need to either trade bezels or cut off one side of the scph-101 bezel. If you don't understand mean, when you get the Scph-101 laser It will become obvious.
If he knows swapping the lasers between them (he said he gutted the second CD drive for the laser)then it is obivious that he can swap a SCPH-101 lens with also changing the bezel to make it fit in the 1001.
hi evilash , SCPH 1001 are notorious for skipping problems................ive seen a guide online for adding a piece of metal to the laser mech to fix the problem you may want to google it. also if your going to get a 3rd party laser do at least hours of testing before giving it the all clear and rendering it problem solved. and ive seen a Youtube video of where someone uses a 3rd party laser mech and it skips like crazy , he figured out switching the original cover for the 3rd party one solved the problem. btw i like your avatar , probably similar to what aliens have used to create us humans
I actually went and got the PSOne and put the laser in the 1001. It won't read CD-Rs now. I don't know if it's a bad laser or what. I'm pretty much giving up on the 1001 for now.
Maybe your discs are too scratched? My old modded 1002 would read CD-R discs fine, using a PSOne laser, but I have to admit that my games weren't so scratched.
