Hi all, I have an SCPH-1001 from May 1996 that i replaced the laser with from an KSM-440-AEM. It has problems still. When spinning the disc, When it gets to X2, It will spin incredibily fast, (Get racing at high speeds), Discs are in good shape. Is it a mainboard problem? I need help. Also it only works on its side
maybe the calibration is out of whack. or it hates the media you're using. (don't expect anything but old-style media to work--cyanine, azo, formazan, etc). i assume you've tried some factory discs? i actually just replaced the pickup in my 1001 today, but with a BAM from a junk PSone. works perfectly. is it possible the AEM actually isn't a drop-in replacement for the AAM/ACM (your machine probably had an ACM) mech? i defer to those who know more...
sorry to double post but i just noticed this. are you saying you took apart both pickup assemblies and swapped just the laser blocks? or did you simply unplug the cables and swap the drives? (which may or may not have been an option, as i pointed out above, cuz i'm not sure if an AEM can drop into a 1001)
hmm... I am suspicious that the AEM just won’t work on your board. the fact you needed to swap cables with the ACM is what makes me think that. but hopefully we will hear from someone like TriMesh who will know for sure. anyway, if you can get ahold of a BAM, those are confirmed to be a drop in replacement for your board. (PU-8 i assume)
