    What are these for exactly?

Years ago I found someone selling them 1 at a time on ebay. They were getting $10-$20 each. I bid and won then again then just bought all he had left. I want to say I had 8-12 in total. I gave 1 or 2 away then Ebayed 1 or 2 and still have a few left.

Now what are they exactly? I had a contact at Sony tell me they were to be used for the Lightspan games. Anyone know any more than this?

To my knowledge, it could've been for an unreleased web browser system for Japan to compete with the then-upcoming 64DD, until they realized they were making a CD powered web browser with more memory against a system that used the same thing as Zip discs.

Didn't Sony Museum have one of these and try to auction it for $$$ ?

looks like a useful bit of kit for FPS games although I don't think there are any games that support this interface. I could be wrong though, test it with Quake 2 or something =p

Going by the color and design, I'd say it pre-dates the psone redesign.

Probably for some canned everquest or similar.
