    Hello all,

Been a while since I was on the site and the upgrades, glad to see everyone modding and hacking consoles.

Anyways I recently purchased a ps2 slim SCPH-90001 GH-074-42 motherboard. I installed a modbo 4.0 chip and it worked fine but not detecting the chip. I swapped out the chip with another modbo 4.0 and now I get no video or audio output. The discs do spin and attempt to read but not sure of its progress since no screen output.

I recently purchased 25 modbo 4.0 chips, a few xeno gcs, some 12c508as and 12f629s to start a little side business.

Anyways here are the pictures for the chip install. All points heated for 3 seconds at 680°F. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4qdw4s4xl1w8iny/AABbTKSl68ujvSPEcX9lVwWNa?dl=0

If someone could help guide me in this I'd be most appreciative.

    Thank you in advance,
    HaloSlayer255

    *Edit*
Seems the "M" wire was crushed at the screw location in about the center of the board. Fixed this wire and it still black screens on me, this seems similar to how the older consoles had a similar failure, might need to replace the optical driver IC. IIRC it was BA5815FM and LA6508 in the older fat series and 5XXXX series respectively. I also assume that the driver has changed in the slim revisions. I remember something about 2004 in the part name.

If I need to do a swap/replace of the affected IC would this tool aid in my repair process? https://www.ebay.com/itm/120V-48W-S...646314?hash=item2edddb832a:g:Ci4AAOSweW5U5A3m and also https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/192063714881 with the complete set.

Just as a quick sanity checking what fuse is tied to the optical driver IC in the GH-074-42 Motherboard?

Remove the chip, clean all solder points and test the PS2 again. Everything else is just wasting time :)

For any further installs on SCPH-9000X consoles: This is a very bad place to put the chip. There is not enough space between the chip and the metal shielding. You will bend the board when putting the screws back in, which can and will cause issues like that, especially because of the BGA ICs near that location.
It's difficult to find a location with enough space, I usually move them towards the edge of the board where the RJ45 connector is and even angle the chip to be slightly outside of the board.

Removed the chip and all works perfectly, will try your suggestion on this install.

Strange thing is I had another console same board revision installed the chip in the same place and no issues.

Will see if I can install the chip later in the week.

Thanks for the help and advice,
    HaloSlayer255

    ---Edit---
Just redid the modchip install yesterday, it is a success. Boots everything, however I've found that diagnosis needs to be turned on to boot CD-R backups. Probably going to clean and pot tweak that diode later. Updated pictures will be in the same folder as before.
