So I picked up a SCART cable for my Sega Saturn which the seller claimed to be compatible with a NTSC machine. I also got a scart to component converter, pluged the two together and fired up the system. The problem, I just get scrambled colors on screen. I tried taking a multimeter to the pins on both sides of the cable and everything seemed kosher. Any ideas? Edit: This is what I picked up: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-SCART-R...=US_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item337dfa167b
When you say "SCART to component adapter", do you mean a converter box/scaler? A simple adapter will not convert RGB to YPbPr (component).
Like he said. To change SCART video into component requires active encoding. They're different formats. A mere adapter only works if your TV already accepts raw RGB from its component jack.

Are you using an HDTV? Many HDTVs cannot process 240p resolution from component input. Even if capable from RF, composite, and s-video. The potential scenario I'm describing in this post is most associated with PS2 owners who try to play PS1 games.
I see. Explain what you mean by "scrambled colors". Do you mean you're getting a coherent image, but in the wrong tint? Or do you mean the image is just noise (static)? Or something else?
I am using a HDTV. However, it accepts the Genesis signal via composite, unless they accept 240p over composite. I was trying to find the resolution the Saturn outputs, but can't find concrete info on it. When I turn on the TV on the component input I am using for the Saturn, the TV says 480i unless that's because the TV itself is upscaling because of the component input. My capture card gives me an "out of range error" probably because of the resolution. Edit: I get this beautiful screen. It doesn't flicker.
Hrm, that's odd. I use the same converter with my Saturn, PS1, Genesis, and Super Famicom. I use a 42" Sony Bravia HDTV and it works fine, though the TV sees the signal as 480i. It's odd. I've never had that happen at all, but the converter does seem to be sensitive to the cables used.
It's not odd. This happens very often. Like I was saying there are HDTVs with blanket refusal of 240p component. The sets affected worst make no visible attempt at all. Instead a generic "signal not found" error. Which tells you nothing useful.
I get signal cut out only once and a while, but it's annoying. Maybe I'll save up for the Framemeister..
After trying on 3 other tvs, I found it was my tv not liking the signal. Only 2/4 tvs worked and the video colors was off slightly on the ones that worked (seemed like it had slight blue tint). Combine that with the fact my capture card won't pick it up, I may just save the scart cable for untill I can get a nice PVM and might have to use S-video for now.
