i bought a few dreamcast games and one of them is not loading :/

is there anything i can try before i return it. there's quite a few scratches on the disc but most look light.

when i put the disc in it loads initially, displays the SEGA screen and then nothing... one time i managed to get to the next two screens - loading crazy taxi and it was stuck on it.

    any help is appreciated :)

Once i got sonic shuffle when it was new would play on the shop dreamcast but not on my one so i never got that game unit about 2 years ago.
You could take the disc to be repaired in a game shop.

Quick question as I remember having a similar issue. Is it Crazy Taxi you're having trouble with? On my original copy the lettering where "Crazy Taxi" is written is silver/shiny, over time the disk started to have trouble being read. I held it up to a light and noticed that there wasn't any protective material over the silver/shiny bit and the data layer was actually degrading, I rubbed my finger over it and flecks of silver foil came away!

I bought a second copy and the writing is white.

Not sure whether you've got similar problems?

The initial batch of Sonic Adventure was also botched up for the US market -- half of the time, the games don't boot or they freeze up mid-game.

Perhaps the disc has been resurfaced before. I got a copy of Ecco for PS2 and I swear it NEVER worked, but the surface of the disc looked so clean except some tiny scratches that no disc is without. After a comparison with a regular disc though, it did look a bit... thinner. Perhaps those disc buffers can only be used so many times before they make the disc too thin or something...

the writing on mine is white. upon closer examination i noticed the disc seems thinner in the region of the crazy taxi writing, as if there's an extra layer everywhere around it... could be wrong

There is a limit to the number of times a disc can be resurfaced. If people treat discs like shite they will eventually become unusable.

As for fixing on the cheap, you can always try one of two home remedies (which do work) as an alternative to paid resurfacing:

    1) Get the disc surface and your finger wet, then rub toothpaste on the disc with your finger. Rub radially along the surface over the scratches (inside ring to outside ring). Do not run in a circle.

    2) Buy the finest grade sandpaper you can find, wet it and then rub the disc radially with the sandpaper under running water.

Sorry but the thought of rubbing sand paper on a disc just about makes me want to cry. :crying:

What do you think a resurfacing machine does?
