So, any advice on how to improve the looks on consoles covered in scratches?

I have an old Megadrive with more than a few scratches, and a couple of DCs (inc. a Sports) with some scratches on the lid.

I've heard of people using car wax to restore or fill in the cracks in the consoles' body or for screens on portable consoles.

An example of what I am talking about, a guy I know has recently acquired these:

Is it possible to get that back to a nicer state?

Does that Saturn even work? Where did it come from, a sawmill?

Yeah I believe it works, well this guy usually finds stuff in the trash or pawn shops.

I forgot to mention, I was looking for products that might be available anywhere and not just specific brands or products as that one, but that's a good tip as to where to start.

I have a few consoles for sale on Mercado Libre I would like to refurbish to improve their looks. Anyway they're nothing like that Saturn or CPS from the picture :banghead:

The car wax advise is spot on. I have used Turtle Wax on more than one console and it has worked wonders.

Oh man that is really bad, don't think chemical treatment alone is enough. Pop the shells off. Maybe try 360 grit sandpaper. careful of dust getting inside. Follow up with not cleaner, but plastic polish such as the stuff used for taking scratches out of convertible top plastic windows.

there's a product call 'Flitz', a metal/glass/fiberglass/plastic buffing compound. I've used it to buff out plastic headlight encasements, cd's, the face on my watch, my windshield, seen it used on boat props. It makes an excellent last step to any buffing I've done.

I usually use wet 1000 grit, then wet 2000 grit, then the flitz stuff.

I should note, on screens like phones or handhelds, only use the wet 2000 grit very lightly on scratches, then hit it with a buffing cloth and the flitz and it gets great results, because some screens have thin protective coating that if you go through it it may be noticeable. And some crt type hd-tvs have a uv, or maybe its polarized coating.

Magic eraser = no way. It will remove the scratches but AFTER it removes the original texture of the plastic. Then again you'll never get the original texture back so go for it.

I just wash with soap and water (after disassembly) then use a bit of Armor-all (stuff you spray on your car's dashboard) and it usually shines it like new (which dulls over time a bit) and conceals some of the scratches.
I had a pretty damn disgusting Genesis 2 go from "UGGG!" to "pretty damn nice Gen2!" with this process.

Thanks for the advice guys, those consoles in the first post do not belong to me, a guy I know found them in the trash in that state, they do work, but look like hell.

I'll try this on a Megadrive I've got in very bad shape and see how it comes out.

Gets the dirt out hard to reach places where I don't want to use chemicals.

Did you see the thing he's talking about? Plus it doesn't get out scratches, just cleans the dirt.

disassemble, clean in a degreaser, dry, sand, paint.

I had a turbo duo that bad and it turned out like this.
