Another question regarding the House of the Dead DX version. Does anyone know the video resolution for this game? I would like to split the signal so I can play it and record the output on my laptop at the same time. The video signal is sent from the game to the projector via four BNC cables: Red, Green, Blue and Yellow-sync (which, if my research is correct, makes it RGBs or Composite Sync - please correct me if I'm wrong!). I would like to know the video resolution so I can find a video converter that will understand the signal and allow me to hook these four BNCs into the computer. I really hope someone can shed some light on this for me, I've been going around in circles. It is the European release in case that changes anything. Thanks a lot!
It's probably CGA or EGA at 512x384 (Medium Res.) Shouldn't it also say that in the JAMMA or game manual? Personally I use a cheap CGA/EGA to VGA converter for my Cruis'n USA to play the game on an LCD. However, if you want to record you'd then need either a VGA recorder which are pretty rare and usually expensive OR you have to convert the signal another time and use a another recorder. I gave up the idea to record arcade games on my PC and will stick to emulators because it is somewhat cheaper and better quality (maybe recording some Lindbergh stuff though - but that outputs DVI / HDMI directly).
Thanks for replying. I thought so too, but there's no mention. I don't mind having to run it though an additional converter. Ideally I'd like to get it to my ADVC box although that limits me to composite or s-video which I realise is a bit limiting. Hopefully if I can get a better idea of what the signal is I'll know what my options are a bit better.
All Model 2 games are medium resolution, 24khz EGA. You may need (multiple) scalers to get a signal you can use with your capture equipment. You'll need at least one for sure as there are very few capture devices which can accept 24k video directly (I know of two that might, and even those I am unsure of). What inputs does your capture equipment accept?
I currently use a Canopus ADVC 110 which has composite or s-video and generally accepts SD TV signals. That said - I did get a very brief image from it using a BNC to phono adapter on one of the BNC colors and then plugging that color into the composite in on the Canopus. The image lasted less than a second as was rolling presumably because of the lack of sync. From this I assume that the canopus would be ok with it if it had the correct input which it doesn't. do you know of any converters that could do the job? Thanks
