No problem, I like it, good luck with your Saturn related project.

Do you plan to do an Dreamcast related project? Just saw yesterday while I was scrolling on IGN page of Code Veronica, there was a news dated august 98, showing which games were announced for Dreamcast, looks like that Agartha was one of the first western titles announced for the console at the time.

Although I keep referring to my work as a Saturn-centric project, there will also be a little crossover, so expect various arcade games, a few 32X titles and even some of the earliest Dreamcast software to be covered as well. Actually, I'm also going to be giving the PC and PlayStation some attention as well due to certain multiplatform releases (which I'm planning on comparing in their different versions). However, the multimedia side of things will be split almost equally between Saturn and PC, only deviating from these formats on very rare occasions...

You could argue that technically it's still sort of called Supercar as SCUD stands for Super Car Ultimate Drive, but that's probably me just being overly pedantic. The 'Scud' was dropped in North America as it was deemed to have negative connotations with missiles and such, hence why it was re-christened Sega Super GT over there. I'm pretty certain the footage of the Dreamcast Scud Race tech demo has featured on this forum before, but if not check it out below:

Aren't there two versions of the Scud Race tech demo out there? One for the SET 2.1 (as seen in the video above) and one for the actual final Dreamcast hardware \ devkit?

I must admit that's the only version of the Dreamcast Scud Race tech demo I've ever seen.

If anyone's interested, awhile back I made a comparison video between the Scud Race themed bonus stage in Outrun 2 and the actual Scud Race levels they were based on.

Yea I was aware of the full name and the missile thing from cold war, this tech demo is know a long time ago, Yakumo has it.

Well, Yakumo have one, but I'am not sure wheter is from the SET 2.1 or later (I think it was SET 4), I did ressurect that thread this year.

I think that there was another footage from the Beginner Course exploration years ago, I recall part of the description "A key goes foward and Z goes Backward, using the keyboard" something like that, but I've never heard for the final hardware.

EDIT: Waybacked jollyroger site, Saved the images and the 3 movies, but the know video on YT is the compilation of them, but I think is shorter.

The Racing scene is called Drive2, besides the F40 being in the Katana SDK, wasn't there something called Drive2? I Remember that looking around in the SDK codes there was one for a racing game.

Some people on the YT video commented that looks like SEGA was trying to rush the port (I think there was complaints about the graphics), my guess is that they wanted to be released as a launch title in Japan release, but is kinda weird, rumours states that Core was the one working, while Smilebit was working with the rushed port of Sega Rally 2, unless that Smilebit was in fact the one that was working with Scud Race and dropped in favor of Sega Rally 2, I read somewhere that the reason for not being ported was probably because of the end of BPR racing series, being turned into the FIA GT, making them having to deal with a new license.

I can't remember why, but on that Yakumo's thread, I mentioned that the tech demo might have came from a earlier than of revision number of Katana SDK.

Ah, I "did" own the Scud Racer demo but not any more. I sold the dev box many years ago.

I recently stumbled on this screenshot and it seems it's not taken from the final version of the game in which the time attack mode is actually called "Time Lap Mode".

Glad you were able to wayback my old site, otherwise I should be able to resurrect those videos. The quality is horrible, I think I used a webcam or a super old digital camera to record the screen, I didn't have anything else...

"I mentioned that the tech demo might have came from a earlier than of revision number of Katana SDK."

Well there was a concordance error here by my part, the tech demo might have came from a katana revision that it was earlier than what Ryo/Yakumo had, I think the number I gave was r8 or r9.

Do you still own that devkit jolly?

Do you know what is the history about this port? Far as I know the Saturn port was the announced one, the Dreamcast one was only discovered thanks to you.

All I've heard that it was being made by Core, my guess is that if the port was being made by Core, it probably got phased out in favor of Fighting Force 2 (A la FF1 for Saturn deal) or they ended their deal at the time.

Funny that Sega Rally 2 was announced along with the DC (and PC) at E3 98 as launch title, but it was know as a rushed port, there was not even a playable version at TGS 98 which made doubts about being done just in the for the release, Sega was working 24 hours per day, in the end it was delayed until February 99. My toughts is that if Core didn't make it, then it would be Smilebit and got phased out due to the end of BPR series and in favor of Sega Rally 2

It'd be nice to see something surface, even if it isn't playable. Dreamcast tech demoes have always interested me.
