Hello. I have a Japanese Gamecube, and I just ordered a Xeno chip to play American games. Yes, I know that I can just put a simple switch, but I don't want to mess the thermal grease in the main board, and this chip will allow me to run swiss if I have a SD adapter. Anyway, I have 2 questions about it: 1 - Is there something bad about install a Xeno chip? I mean, once I don't mess the install process. 2 - Is there a "right" SD adapter? Or it doesn't matter witch one I choose? I was reading in Reddit, and I found different opinions about it. Just in case, these are some options from ebay: - http://goo.gl/e29pYZ - cheaper one (U$ 3,87) - http://goo.gl/sQ5PFe - recommendation from a reddit user (U$ 6,99) So, witch one I choose? Those looks too similar to me... but maybe there is a better option that I don't know. Thanks
I don't think it matters which one you get. I bought one from China a while back and it works flawlessly.
When I install the Xeno chip in gamecubes for my customers.. I always use small wire.. just easier for me then doing the direct solder way.
The only downside to a Xeno I can think of is that there'll be a bit of light from its status LED coming out of the ventilation slot. Not much of a downside, but it's all there is. If you play in the dark a lot and it bothers you, just stick some opaque tape on there before reassembling the cube. SD adapter: doesn't matter, some might feel sturdier or have a nicer color or whatever, but in the end they all work the same.
The main thing about Xeno, or most if not all modchips, is it doesn't affect the system's region mode. If you're using an actual Japanese console, that means games will treat the GameCube as being Japanese. This only matters for one known American game: Star Fox Adventures. Which displays Japanese subtitles without a workaround (like Swiss). No affected PAL games are yet found. Edit: clarified a little more.
