Just got my retron 3 in my mail 3 days back... its my first SNES console, and i am looking to get a flash cart to slot into the SNES portion.
Will like to know does any of the carts work with the retron 3 version 2? if so what would be value for money?

They may work, but clones are not an officially supported method so any issues you may run into you may not get help for. We have customers ask us this all the time and we always suggest using original hardware. Most people here will probably tell you the same.

Generally some SNES clones are OK but not all will work. It's the NES clone that is real crap shoot. I think only 1 clone actually works with PowerPak (and probably Everdrive N8 as well) and only some version do so you can't even tell by looking at the clone console. :/

You're better off with real console anyway. Cloned consoles don't reproduce everything 100% currently.

THanks for the quick feedback, but is SD2NES more worth while compared to the cheaper Super everdrive with DSP1? THeres quite a huge different in pricing. or Super Powerpak is the way to go....provided it works on the retron 3

Generally sd2snes has a lot more power and potential to run all those games with special chips. I don´t know if it works on clone consoles though.

Actually the NES clones are fairly accurate in many areas. But when they cloned it they messed up a few things. One of the common things that is mixed up is the square wave channels duty cycles for 25% and 75% are reversed. This causes those channels to sound noticeably wrong. The other thing often mixed up is the wiring of signals from the NES clone to the cartridge. This is why four screen and MMC5 games don't work. And probably not Afterburner either. There are older NES clones that apparently don't have any of these problems. But the newer ones that are usually glop tops and not actual IC clones of each chip tend to have these mistakes made. But actually clones in some ways are more accurate than atleast older NES emulators.

SNES clones apparently due to the technology used and just because they didn't really make any huge mistakes apparently are fairly faithful but they usually are missing S-Video or RGB output.
