    Ok,

So I've been lurking around here for a while and found out all kinds of useful info that saved me from my superwildcard of the past. and I managed to get myself an SD2SNES and made a custom cart, load it with games so far so good.

But I've encountered a few small issues and I wondered if they are common problems I cant find a soloution for, or am I looking in the wrong place for the answers?

First up my SMO MSU-1 doesn't have sound, I think I need a DOS patch for this?

Second and most annoyingly I think, when I hold reset on the console I get the 3 solid lights, but, no save in the SRAM. When i restart the game it goes from the start not the SRAM. Any suggestions? so I need to put a save on there first that it can locate to?

Third, my retro-bit wireless controllers dont work with the SD2SNES, i tested a wired controller and no probs, but it doesn't like the wireless ones. suggestions?

Bar that I am just getting to know the system, any hints and tips? I think its amasing to be able to play almost any game on the SNES again without an emulator. I am geeking out playing Chrono trigger FoE. I also loaded on there the new super back to the future so I'm waiting to play that next!

You need to convert the WAV files that came with Super Mario Odyssey using this. If you just rename the files to .pcm, they won't loop properly and you'll get static. I had this problem before this tool was pointed out to me.

Are you actually saving the game normally, as in how you would save if it were a real cart? Or are you expecting a "save state" like if you were using an emulator? All holding reset will do is write the contents of the sram to a .srm file (write the save to the SD). If you don't actually save the game as you would on a normal cartridge, holding reset won't do anything. Sd2snes does not have any kind of "save state" support.
Also, the sd2snes automatically copies the sram to the SD every once in a while, and usually immediately after you save in game. Holding reset usually isn't necessary in most cases.

I have no idea about the wireless controller. It seems to me that the snes wouldn't know the difference between a wireless controller and a regular wired one. If you're using some kind of clone system, that may be why. The sd2snes was designed to run on real (aka original, Nintendo manufactured) hardware. Clone systems often don't mimic the original hardware exactly, and sometimes things like this can happen because of that.

EDIT: Technically, holding reset will always write the sram to a .srm, but if you don't save in game beforehand, it will be empty. It won't appear in game as if it did anything.

Yeah, that wireless controller thing is bizarre. Don't try a wired controller - try an officially-licensed game cartridge! I can't imagine how the SD2SNES could have anything to do with those not working. But then again, I've been wrong about stuff that was almost as weird in the past...

I have been interested in those Retro-Bit controllers though since I first saw one, but I won't buy one until I see some reviews...

Yea its odd that they don't work, I think its sending a signal to the SNES though. when I plug in the normal controller it responds but if I have even 1 wireless controller plugged in neither works. ??????? they are only £30 so its not the end of the world but It would be good if they work in the future. Wireless controllers would be awesome, it annoys me sitting so close to the TV.

I understand now about the SRAM, I thought the SD2SNES had a save state function. Hopefully this along with soft reset will be implemented in the future. I don't actually have any old carts lying around as I bastardised one to make the case the SD2SNES now sits in.

By the way, I kinda looked for reviews of the RetroBit controllers. There are a lot of complaints like yours, but apparently you press Select and Start at the same time or something in order to get the controller to be recognized. This is printed on the box somewhere.

In any case, probably nothing to do with the SD2SNES.

I have synced the controllers but sadly no dice, it doesnt seem to accept any input from them. It also overides any normal controller that is plugged in so it no longer works either. Its a bit odd

Definitely nothing to do with the sd2snes. It just reads the controller registers like any other game. If it doesn't work the wireless controllers are probably defective.

Hrm, I kinda suspected that might have been the case. Pretty dumb that they used US/JPN controllers though instead of Euro controllers which will work in all regions or a mix of the two depending on customer location. So how are these controllers?

the controllers are ok, the joypad bit is a little sensitive, i press down and they go right and down. I might take it to bits and shave down the plastic to try and reduce the problem. Its ok but annoying on an RPG, it would be infuriating on a fighting game or action game though.

Any word on the MSU1 solution? I also have no music, either with Odyssey or LttP (which I really want working). I got LttP working in BSNES 0.68, but not in Higan or on the SD2SNES
