Hi all, just a quick question withe regards to the SD2SNES and a couple of problems I've experienced with the SD2SNES and some ROMs I've used. First of all I have tried them on different SD cards and I have tried different ROM sites but I still get the same problem, An example will be Super Mario World, I can't get past the first Castle, when I try to I get a glitch and I die automatically, I don't know why this is also in other game some onscreen objects do not appear, again I have tried different SD cards (Kingston, Samsung & Toshiba) but each time I am getting the same problem, Any help would be great as I think the SD2SNES is a great bit of kit, Hopefully hear back soon, Cheers Rob :encouragement:
I searched the forum, and it seems that the problem could be my SNES I'm going to check with my friends using my SD2SNES. hopefully this solves it and I can hopefully purchase a new SNES, gutted it could my my orginal from when I was a child doesn't work with it :moody:
I just got my SD2SNES from Retrogate a few days ago and I've yet to have any problems with Super Mario World. Playing with an unheadered US version using 32GB San Disk SD on NTSC-U SNES and SNES Mini, made it to Star Road just fine. Not sure what to suggest, maybe try headered vs. unheadered ROM? Don't know if that would make any difference.
Pardon my ignorance, but what is unheadered and headered ROMs? Also should I look into getting this SNES Purify? Cheers again
To quote smwcentral.net: "These are two different formats for ROM images. A headerless ROM only contains the ROM banks in the order from the SNES address space. A headered ROM contains the same ROM banks, but has 512 extra bytes at the start of the file. These 512 bytes form a SMC header and are not part of the cartridge ROM. Most emulators ignore and skip the SMC header." Headers originated from the old floppy disk game copiers. To my knowledge, they do not effect game play on the majority of games. Certain hacks and translation patches require a headered ROM before they can be applied. You can add/remove them with a number of utilities, such as NSRT. However, this shouldn't be a problem, as SD2SNES can run games with or without a header.
Seems like more than myself have expreced the problem, see below: http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/6157/t1750897-super-mario-world-castle-1-iggy-koopa-glitch/ http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/519824-super-mario-world/41090798 http://techforums.nintendo.com/thread/14612
