Wasn't that game like acknowledged at the beginning of this topic, being the sole reason for it?

Yeah, looked a bit like Hydro Thunder on Dreamcast, but a bit odd in some way. They went definitely better with the final product.

    Here's some footage:

Yeah, I'd say Prey. I didn't know that about Pokemons though.

The thing I like is that Prey came out pretty good too.

I don't get anything out of playing Pokemon (I've tried, it just seems like a boring RPG to me), but the story behind it is pretty amazing. It was basically one guy's self-financed dream. As I recall his threadbare staff were constantly threatening to walk out, because they frequently weren't getting paid. It had a tiny initial production run (like 30,000 units I think), and when it finally came out it sold a few copies on week 1, then a few more on week 2, and just exploded after that. I'm pretty sure it was in development from 1989 to 1996.

As far as Prey goes, I got to the bit in the little spaceship thing and decided that I'd had enough of the stale late-90s FPS shit. I really don't feel like going back to it. Shame, as it did some interesting things.

prey was announced in 1995, but was paused for 3 years in 1999. the release date was in 2006, which would be 11 years of development...but 3 years paused ;)

It had really cool freaky stuff happen in the storyline, I loved it. My complaint was that the guns were really unique looking, but they were usually just normal guns.

Mother 3 is close to prey. It was announced in 1996 for the N64, and eventually got released on the GBA in 2006.

I may be wrong on this, but wasnt Metroid 4 announced shortly after Super Metroid for SNES ( im gonna say 95 or 96 maybe?), and then later released as Metroid Fusion for GBA??

Okay. But it was constantly delayed (i remember because i used to play TFC and everybody kept waiting for it).

Then Valve stopped talking about it. Mods like Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, Firearms and so on started to become big and then everybody forgot about TF2.

When they talked about it again it was totally different, not to mention it didn't took that much for them to release.

So, what i meant was the "original" TF2.

Tengai Makyou III I believe would be similar, if not longer. Announced for the PC-Engine (then maybe the PC-FX? Anyone?) and eventually coming out on the PS2 in 2005 or 2006 or something. Of course, the game was entirely scrapped, and only the characters remained. I assume Mother 3 was something similar.
