I found this n64 day before yesterday and later noticed it has a sticker on it that says "NOM". After closer inspection I noticed the console was made in Mexico. My question is, are these systems rare or is there anything out of the ordinary about them? I've spent quite a bit of time Google-ing but I can't find anything. Can anybody point me in the right direction or shed some light on this variation of the 64?
I think they started making the N64 in Mexico when they lowered the price down to $99.99 (which happened around Christmas 1999). They seem to feel a bit lighter and the build quality is a little cheaper. Just the natural progression of a game console, though. This seems to be the case between my Japanese N64 and my Mexican N64, at least.
Thanks! It's a new one for me, I buy pretty much any old Nintendo system I see and of about 20 n64 this is the only made in Mexico I've found.
I did not know that some N64 were made in Mexico. Cool! About the sticker: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norma_Oficial_Mexicana I bought a PS2 Slim (SCPH-90010) in Mexico, it has a NOM sticker and only plays Region 4 DVDs, but it was made in China. In my previous job I was in charge of obtaining NOM approval for food products. It took a long time to get them, months. Really annoying, don't miss that part of the job at all.
Thanks for the link! I guess that could get anoying. i couldnt imagine having to wait a month or more for my job to be complete. That must have been torture. Now if I can only track down the number of units produced in Mexico.....which could take months of digging to get a vague idea of the number. I may get a glimpse of that feeling after all.
