One of my favorite games of all time is Rez for the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2. If you have good taste and like Rez, too, please watch these YouTube videos (courtesy of Matt H.) from the game’s early stages of development when it was still known as “K Projectâ€. kotaku Sorry if this has been posted before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivI6kB2cbgc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxAcC1lqrNU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zwj3ozymLWc
it changed qutie a bit from the looks of it, it seems the orignal game dealt with more open enviroments, as opposed the the enclosed one ofthe final.
Interesting, thanks for pointing me to the vids. Dont think it looks more 'open' as sayin999 says above though?
Thanks for the Beta vids, interesting concepts with the different level styles, I can understand why it was removed. Still I like the look of that running one for something totally different. Another beta to desperately wait for it seems.
Heh, exact same videos (file name and all) as on the old ftp. As for 'k-Project' I've only heard of it in conjunction with the PS2 version of Rez.
I don't think people have any idea how much money i would pay for that proto... and that would be one of the few that i would actually dump, NDA's be dammned.
Same here. I looked for protos of the game for some time actually, and managed to find two even. Unfortunatly, I found each at times when my financial situation was in a mess, and after that cleared up they wern't available anymore. :crying: I really hope copies make it into the community at some point, but as with most great protos I don't think it'll happen for a good long while, if ever.
Yeah -- that definitely looks like a proto worth shelling out for. Problem? Japanese work ethic. They generally tend not to put their jobs at risk for the sake of their geekdom (unfortunately for us). Thanks for sharing though -- best Yourtube vids I've seen yet.
Rez was one of the few games that radically changed from Tetsuya Mizuguchi's initial concept to the final version, with several different prototypes inbetween (just to make tracing its development history more complicated for people like us)! In addition to being known as K-Project during the earlier stages of its production, I once read that its original platform wasn't even the Dreamcast. Actually, members from the same team who later formed UGA were playing around with the idea of a sound-activated game back when the Saturn was still alive. Ever notice how similar Rez is to the first two Panzer Dragoon games? I have a feeling the "K-Project" team (or whatever they were still part of then - AM ANNEX?) may have even used the engine from that series at one point, as it's no secret that Sega also tried unsuccessfully to resurrect that franchise early in the Dreamcast's life. Perhaps what we know today as Rez came from such experimentation? Anyway, thanks for linking to those videos - they're all new to me!
