I just picked up a Genesis Model 2 and a 32x at a local game shop. Unfortunately, they didn't bother to include the connector cable for the 32x, so it's sitting useless to me now. Does anyone know where I can pick one up cheap? I took a quick look online but I really don't want to pay $30 for one. And I'm not handy enough to make my own. Can anyone help me out?
Surely you can pick up a generic cable for much less? It's just a 9-pin mini-DIN, right? like... These <-- link

I guess I should specify that I am in the US for any future links. And I'd rather not use eBay if at all possible.
I would go to the store and tell them it's missing stuff. Hopefully they'll still have it and give it to you.
Yeah, but money talks. And special cables are more expensive than just buying identical Mini-DIN ends and slapping some wires on them.
You're trying to apply rational thought to a company who excelled in the opposite. I mean, if they're crazy enough to release the 32X just six months prior to the Saturn then you've got to assume anything is possible More to the point, if I'm not mistaken the MD2 already had a custom 9-pin DIN socket for video, so the 32X video interconnect was going to have to be custom either way. Why do game hardware manufacturers make their A/V hookups custom? To sell you official cables at a high price.
Now, you're just talking out of your hindquarters. Why would they make a special mini-DIN when they could have made something truely special, and probably cheaper to make, like what nintendo did with the AV on the SNES? Or the weird things that Atari ended up doing for the Jag? If they were really trying so hard to be special, they wouldn't have used a common connector. They did it because it was CHEAP. Not only is it cheaper to buy a plug that already exists, but it's even cheaper than that because you don't have to pay someone to design a new plug, and then make equipment to produce the new plug, and pay people to run the equipment. But even if money wasn't a deciding factor... It's easier. Sure, Sega did some weird things. But they were never brain-dead. Even today, the company is still full of humans.
I probably didn't articulate what i was thinking at the time, nor can I remember what I was trying to say. So, no offense.
So... Back to my original question. Is there anywhere I can get one for cheap? I do appreciate all the information, it's just I'd really like to play some games now.
