Hello, I've recently unpacked my 32X to play various games but for some reason, the machine boots to the licensed by Sega screen and does nothing after, this happens on all 32X and Megadrive games. i have tried reseating the ribbon cables and clean the connectors but I can't get any better from it.... anyone know how/where I can get it fixed?
one thing to try is leave it powered for some time (even if does not boot) and see if it works fine after that... aging caps can be the cause of such a symptom...
Ah I see! I'll give that a try, after about a minute the screen went strange like it wanted to work I remember last time.
I had issues with two of my 32X units (of the Mega variant) with them just showing the license screen then nothing else. Pulled them apart and cleaned and reseated the white ribbon cables with no change. Thought about it later and tried cleaning the carts I was jamming in with methylated spirits and used some fine sandpaper on the Mega Drive and 32X cart connectors. Then they both started working. Good thing I was doing renovations at the time or I would have had no sandpaper and just given up! Did you have any luck with the suggestion from keropi?
I had a little sand down of the connectors but it hasn't changed it should I try again? I left the machine on for 20 mins, would that be enough time for the caps to do their thing?
The 32X seems to be finicky for some reason. I have 2 of the US models. The one I used mainly would boot my copy of Knuckles Chaotix but failed to load any 32X games from my Everdrive MD. I switched to my other unit and problem solved. I don't know what that was all about. Said problematic unit played regular 16 bit Genesis games through 32X just fine both retail carts and ROMs on Everdrive MD.
yeah 20 mins sounds ok.... this might sound a ridiculous thing but I have faced this same behavior with amiga computers that are expanded... leave them off for a couple of months and they won't boot until they have stayed on for a while.... I guess your problem is different... I suggest you try and re-clean the connectors and open the unit to look inside for anything wrong
I'll have another look inside the machine, I tried a Megadrive and Megadrive II I guess maybe I should try the sandpaper trick again if it worked for some of the machines you guys have, it's certainly the same error that's for sure. Thanks for the help you guys are giving me by the way
Ah everyone here is here to help! That's what the spirit of retrogaming is all about! Plus I don't think I could stand having another person missing out on the greatness that is Doom for 32X... :victorious:
