I'm trying to build a neptune, so i removed the video in and out connectors from the 32x. In megadrive 2 i cut the traces to the video out connector. Soldered wires from the traces to the video in from 32x. After that i soldered wires from video out in 32x to the video connector in mega drive. Using a RGB cable all the mega drive games are working fine. But when i start Mortal Kombat 2 (32x), the backgrounds are looking normal in RGB, but the characters are blue. What am i doing wrong?

Look at the pic to see an example of what i did.

I forgot to mention that the 32x is connected to the mega drive through 64 wires, 4 cm long. could this be because a bad connection of one of those wires or because the 2 white ribbon cables? Once again, the megadrive games are working fine.

Sounds like a problem on the RGB connections. I don't know what stuff is MD doing and what stuff 32X is doing in MK2 but something regarding RGB connections is wrong, you seem to be missing Red and Green color signals.

Doesnt the Genesis generate the backgrounds, and the 32x generate characters?

As far as I remember, there is a lead joining the 32X and Genesis. Could it be something with this link? If you play it without the lead attached, the game plays, but no characters visible. So I guess it points to that?

I could be totally wrong in concept though!

the video wires between mega and 32x are ok. for example if i remove the blue signal, the background is missing blue, but the characters are still blue. it's something wrong with the 32x. if someone has the pinout for the 315-5788 chip...

It looks to me that your 32X R,G,B signals are touching each other or something similar. Did you check that the solder blobs are not touching?

i've checked the board for any solder blobs or drops and i didn't find any. i'm not an expert, but i'm thinking that the video chip 315-5788 is receiving 2 separate rgb signals: one from mega drive and one produced by the 32x and this signals are on different pins. if i only knew what pins are receiving the rgb from 32x...
PS: i've checked again the two ribbon cables and they are fine.

Are you sure they are soldered to the correct pins, when i made my neptune i did it like this
    [IMG]

and make sure you solder them to the same on the Genisis/Megadrive PCB.

they are soldered correctly, it's just something wrong with the 32x.
