Still. If you dissconect the ribbon from the powerboard and messure the corsponding pins directly on the ribbon u shoul have 5v on vcc right?(from the megadrive) if not then the problem might be elseware. The tr4 voltage u get.. is it on the power cord side or on the ic6 side?

Yes, vcc from the mega drive shows 5V.
The Tr4 shows voltages on both collector and emitter, ie, it is opened by the vcc from the md.
Right now I am thinking of trying a wire between the output of TR4 and the input of the voltage regulator, unless anyone has any objections. Will have to wait until tomorrow in any case.

    Actually, I object :p
Got me thinking that since there was a voltage across C43, the trace couln't be all bad. Desoldered it, and tried to fire up the console, and voila...Works again, albeit with a slight shake to the picture. I'm assuming C43 helps smooth the ripples. Anyway, will have to replace it, hopefully I have a spare.

    Thanks!
    I had a spare, and.....same result.
With C43 soldered in, the console doesn't power on!
I have no means for testing caps, but would be weird if both are faulty straight out of the box.

Hope to Crom this is my final word on this :p
Desoldered the second C43 cap, and...no power! Guess the Cap wasn't to blame, seems desoldering the first one somehow temporarily fixed the connection between TR4 and the voltage regulator.
Soldered in C43 again, and the connected a jumper wire from the output of TR4 to the input of the voltage regulator, and I have now seen the entire intro of Snatcher (great game btw!), so yeah.....
