I've recently got a Sega CD m1 but it won't eject the disc. When I remove the disc by taking it apart it works one or 2 times (only tried it with music CD's and 1 game due to the fact I only own 1 sega CD game which might have a heavy case of disc rot as it not plays) and then it's stuck again. I can hear it trying to push out the tray but with no luck... Also when the game is put in it seems to freeze up after pressing start, but the access light still goes on and off as if it loads. What might be wrong and how can I fix it?
Depends. It's atrociously easy for the cogs to get out of alignment and either eject badly (incomplete and then retracts) or not at all (jammed or so out of alignment the cog attached to the motor doesn't come into contact with the next cog). Never been able to fix it and I've got two here with the latter issue and I know of third with it as well.
Could be getting "lazy" due to age, the top magnet that clamps the cd might be over powering the ejecting mech. When you take it apart, the tray mech isn't fighting anything. Try taking it apart, lube everything and see what that does. Also have a look at this thread, it may help. http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?22027-Sega-CD-systems-repair-thread The model 1 is a nice looking beast, but crickey, what a troublesome thing!
Well it CAN play fully assembled right after assembling it. I've tried now to use it without the magnetic holder, which seems to work fine. What I've noticed though is that after disassembling it only work again if I fully unroll the tray, otherwise it still has that issue... I've seen that tread works wonders on some issues.
