So I bought a model one sega cd a while ago and when I got it it made grinding noise when booting a disc. When I get the disc out there aren't any scratches on it. With that said, it seems to be the gears but, before I want to go monkeying around with it blindly I need to know if anyone here has had the same issue. Btw It boots disc fine. Grinding sound occurs mostly with loading. Can anyone help me save my sega cd model 1?
Could be a few things. It could be something like this http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showth...-repair-thread&p=546677&viewfull=1#post546677 Or it could be the cd laser limit switch is dirty and not working properly. Actually read through this, I am sure it is in there somewhere from memory (sorry balancing a 1 year old on my lap atm).
Update: I have got the grinding sound to go away by stretching those springs. Now I have to adress the other problem: very rarely it will randomly eject at the bios I am about to fix that.
I've got a model 1 here that refuses to leave the tray in. It'll eject when you ask it to and retract but then eject again. The BIOS doesn't seem to know its ejecting a second time as the on screen icons don't change. I'm wondering if it is a belt issue.
Is it a sony drive? If so have you tried to clean the 2 switches on the narrow board at the front of the drive? That "wrecker" unit that i got going had similar issue's. Cleaning the switches, perfect. I think there is a pic on the sega 16 link above. I have to revisit my gripping medium that i used for the magnetic clamp. It is too "grippy" lol! If you leave a cd in it over time the cd, when ejected, will slightly stay stuck as the tray comes out and will stay in the machine. I have something else to try hopefully that works better. Edit I just had a look at my post on the sega16 link, if you scroll up a few posts from the link there are a few pics there. Yes mine had issues alright, open/close/open/close all by itself lol!
Well its lens carriage isn't elevating now I'll have to take another look at it tomorrow I have a feeling its the cog. I am afraid if I monkey with it anymore today I will mess it up more with frustration. Plus Its game day And me and some friends are having a chili cook off. Btw. If i can't get it to work I'll buy a model 2 and send it for a multi bios fitting.
Don't really need multi-bios these days, I have a model 1 and 2 with it, but there are alternatives. 1/Region free Bios (there is a thread about it in the Sega thread) I think the Japanese BIOS works best? Not up to date with it as I used the multi-bios's. 2/Mega Everdrive I believe you can stick the BIOS's onto it and run the CD from there. I haven't got ot tried that either but apparently it works. Saves drilling/cutting into your case. I wasn't so concernced as I bought mine to play and keep, re-sale doesn't enter into my mind.
