    Hey guys.

I have a Sega CD here that I've been working on for awhile. Console came in completely dead. Found bad caps inside(as usual. These are mandatory recap status now like PCE/Turbo Duos and Game Gears.)

I fully recapped the console, replaced the fuse, voltage regulator, and a damaged genesis card connector slot.

I currently get no boot. I occasionally get a blinking light for a moment and then nothing.

5V is being produced, however I did notice it dipping after it had been on for a bit, so I started poking around with my finger and the CPU burnt my finger slightly. I haven't been able to recreate the fault since then though.

My guess is a dead CPU. Thoughts?

Could be a short. Could be damaged traces. You're going to have to spend a lot of time examining it.

Can you provide a pic of the motherboard ?
Have you a spare Mega-CD 1 to test component to each other's ?

I've checked for shorts and damaged traces, but it is possible I missed something. I do have a stereo microscope, which I use for microsoldering and examination. Can always look over it again.

The CPU getting so hot that it caused the 5V rail to start dipping tells me I probably need to replace the 68k CPU. It won't get hot again though, so I think it might have blown the short it had open. Either way, its probably dead.

I don't have a spare CD model 1 to compare it to currently, but I have a parts console headed my way. Sadly, it's in worse shape from electrolytic capacitor damage than this one was.

I don't have a picture on hand of the board. The only thing I have is a few shots from before the recap. I can provide a picture when I get home from my classes later tonight.

You may check with another power board to see if you have same result with 68k.
