I have an old Sega CD model 2 I got from a garage sale. It used to work fine until I let my sibling hook it up in the basement and now it refuses to work. I can plug power into it(I even bought a new PSU just in case) and im sure the PSU is fine but after powering on the genesis power does not go through to the sega cd. Occassionaly after some15 times of unplugging the SCD from the genesis and re-attacvhing it and providing power, I can get the access light to blink momentarily for not ewven half a second before it stays off. Im tempted to think a fuse is blown but I have no idea how the sega cd works or what I would need to buy to fix it. Any ideas? I really wanna play that chu chu rocket clone :p

    Its certainely the fuse.
    But
... this let me septical, lol.

If its the fuse (just test with a continuity tester if there is power passing throught), its easy, just localise it (F301 or something like that) and then you have 2 solutions:
1-You replace the fuse with a new 1amp one.
2-You solder directly the 2 side of the fuse (to make a direct connection) <<< WARNING, its dangerous if there is really a problem.

You grabbed the iso or a demo disc at cge ? :smt023

edit: ACK! i missed it, I swore it was in october >.< I must have got the dates mixed with MAGfest.

edit2: if it plays on gens, is there an online store I could order it from?

Lol, doesn't matter. Because there is a cd protection (on the final version) i was just interested to know who dumped it (and with which cd-rom reader brand).
So, if you have a dump, i just would like to know if the dump is correct.

So, did you looked at the fuse?

im actually at work. I presume radio shack would sell such a fuse? if so Ill stop by once im done here : ). Im not the most talented with a soldering gun but thanks for the advice. Also your cd rom protection, it it just a bigger disc? because if so there are ALOT of things people could do it get it to work, heck they could even use a dreamcast to dump it.

Well good news and bad news. BAd news is, I was hit with w95.cih and it blew everything, even the mobo. A tip to people with ignorant kids, make sure they dont have permission to turn off a vurs scanner. Anyway professional data recover recovered a few minor files that I needed but most of the programs I had written were gone. Good news is I had burned a demo of the game for a friend on a ZSNES message board. It happened to have most of the latest new files on it so I was able to recover some work, but progress is halted until I finish rewirting programs for it. Finally,

has some information about the next part of the game ill be working on, though im having quite a few troubles with it at the moment. Finally i would also like to note all my tools for this will be publically availible upon request with source in case someone else wants to try their hand at a dc game but needs some help in the tools department : ). I hoped to have a demo ready the day Sonic Team Unplugged went for sale but i guess that wasn't meant to happen.

Just ask for a "resistor" shaped fuse, it will be easier to solder.
Nope, its a complex combinaison of unreadable data + dynamic patching (as i know). So, if you have a dump, just tell me the content of the iso.

I 'fixed' my non-working MegaCD by shorting the 'F1' fuse (located near the power supply) with a piece of wire.
Electronics experts may frown, but it's been happily working again for about a year now.
