i recently got a sega cd for like 20$ since the person thot it was broken. i opened it up and after some googling found that it usually is a fuse that has blown and why it wasnt powering on. so just to test i ran to wires on either side of the fuse contacts and connected the wires. well it powered up that time and ran fine. so i went and got another fuse for it, but accidentally got the wrong amppage.

the fuse i got was 1 amp whereas the one i needed was a 2.5 amp. well at the time i didnt know this so i got it wired up and gave it a try. it turned on so i played some silpheed on it for a bit and then left it alone. after a while i came back to turn it on and now it wont turn on.

the fuse i put on it blew so i thot that was the problem. so again i connected the wires directly(i had it plugged in to a surge protector this entire time) and still nothing, just a purple screen on my tv. any reason y its not working? i checked the board and it doesnt seem like anything is fried and it doesnt smell like something burn out either :banghead:

Shorting it while it is known to be blowing fuses is a bad idea. Sounds like you probably fried it.

Aww damn it man, I am very sorry to hear what happened. But a surge protector doesn't really do anything if you're sega cd is blowing fuses. Buy the fuse correct fuse and give it another go... Who knows maybe it was just a false alarm.

Surely if you got lower amps then the fuse would blow straight away and damage wouldn't be caused? That is the point of a fuse unless I'm reading this wrong. I'd suggest going with what ceramiclion said and pray it isn't fried.

Silly question but does it give you a image for a split second then give you the purple screen?

Don't worry, I was stupid enough to plug a NES adapter into a SegaCD frying it. Then I shorted the fuse space and melted a lot of solder points whilst blowing a few parts!

Even we smart ones screw up big time in a very dumb way.
