You're probably not helping by supplying it with over an entire volt less than it wants. "boots" is a very different thing from "safe and reliable". Who knows what kind of damage those incorrectly rated power adapters might lead to.
If CD isn't starting, you have other corroded trace somewhere else. It does not need the CD bios to boot from a cart. When you instert a cart, pin A31 on the cart slot is tied to GND and system knows it is expected to boot from the cart slot. That's how cart booting works. I've never seen blown CD BIOS chips. I'd say you still have a torn out trace somewhere on your unit. Sadly that kind of fault is tricky to repair... :\
Yeah a bad CD bios alone I doubt would affect cart mode. Surely a more serious problem here. I'd advise to stop for the moment and seek out a technician who can perform greater in-depth repair work. We don't need to be risking the system further. Well in the event you do get very lucky to find it, keep watch out for this. It's the one and only CDX power source approved by Sega of America. No other actual Sega-US-branded alternative exists.
yes, i know that the bios is not need it to boot from cart. the cart works even with the bios removed. isn't B31 cart in? A31 is vcc. if the cd bios is disabled, the system is forced in cart mode?
No, it will try to boot from blank (or corrupted) address space. It will aways try to boot from the expansion connector if cart pin is high. And yes B31. my bad.
Lum said that the cdx without a cart or cd has nothing on lcd. mine always is on GAME. that means the cdx is somehow forced into cart mode.
Perhaps you could try connecting the CART pin to +5v and try the machine out ? If CD starts, then the pullup resistor for the CART signal is corroded or broken.
I've conencted B32 (cart_in) to vcc and it didn't worked. now cart games aren't working. i get a black screen after tmss. i'm sick and tired of this cdx, so time of death: 1:24 am 07.09.2011.
Good replacement for multi mega /CDX. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/9-5V-AC-A...Accessories_PowerSupplies&hash=item35b4f15fdb
i paid about 36 usd for it. But shipping from Romania to Brazil will be a kill. it will be better to buy 2 working cdx ). plus, i never shipped outside the contry...
Yeah I can only agree with you. I've done some repairs for people in Brazil. Now to send packages internationally it's a frigging hassle now since you have to fill some forms to declare what you're sending because after all, everyone could be a terrorist ...
before fixing anything or replace anything you should check if all voltages are there, megadrive and genesis used a 7805 for supplying all the voltages in the machine, those use to die, plus, check all blown fuses, resolder the cart slot, if there was corrosion on the board, it shure have a lot of broken joints, don't let it die, is a nice machine.
yeah i doubt it's worth shipping cost to send international both ways for repair. if you don't care about the cd games enough, getting a vastly cheaper us model 2 should do.
pc_91, yes, it's a nice system but too much time wasted on it. Lum, i have about 4 megadrives 2 and a mega cd 2 and i'm not really into sega (more nintendo), but cdx it's nice and small and only one power supply.
My pal Multi Mega came with a similar power supply. It had the correct connector, identical voltage, identical ampage and polarity (for a pal machine) so there should be no long term damage. so assuming it has the identical specifications, it should be a perfect replacement. Just check your own console to make sure it is a match
I am looking for a power supply for a MultiMega to. The one that came with it is the MD2. So i was thinking of buying the ASUS EEE PC 700 701 LAPTOP PSU, the thing is, the voltage is right 9.5v but the amperage is way more. The MultiMega should be a 1.3A or 1.5A but the ASUS one has 2.5A. Could this be a problem?
