We all know about and have seen the pics of the Sega DC and the Iomega Zip Drive attachment. Would have made the online functionality of the console more usable. But here's something I found interesting while browsing through the final issue of the US ODCM regarding another Iomega storage candidate (issue 12 - Feb 2001). An interview with Peter Moore (page 94): Peter Moore: ....And of course, if Xbox offers its own mass storage media, we should have our own. But we are not yet decided on which one. There is the Zip drive, and many people are asking about it- especially since you could consider 'Zip drive' as being more or less equal to 'mass storage'. But we are currently trying many systems, such as Iomega's 'Click'. And of course, a hard drive can certainly be considered. So Sega was evaluating the 40 MB Iomega Click discs as potential storage options for the DC? For those who didn't know, Iomega later rebranded the Click drive/disks as "Hip Zip" to be used in some portable music players during the MP3 craze. I recall using Click disks back in late 1990 and found them to be pretty durable and fast compared to Zip disks. The important thing is, I wonder if this device exists in proto form somewhere? Peter Moore admits Sega was evaulating several options...how many of these made it at least into some sort of proto or testing stage?
