Sega Dreamcast Dev Box Question

Sega Dreamcast Dev Box Question...Katana Set 5.16

I'm currently bidding on a Sega Dreamcast Katana Dev Box (HKT-01) on eBay.

This Dev Box is labeled with the "Katana" name on front instead of "Dreamcast" and is said to be a "set 5.16" system....

Are there any internal differences between this devbox and the later one's with the
"Dreamcast" badge on front? Will it play retail games at all? Is it compatible with the
R9 dev software, or able to be updated to be compatible with R9 (via flashing the BIOS os similar)? Or do I need the older R7?

Looking at pictures iv'e found they *look* the same externally other than the name, but
looks can be deceiving ;-)

We need to find this R7 sdk i wonder if some one has a copy of it some where?

 

there are hardware differences, certain hardware bugs were not worked around in the 5.16 version...so there is a possibility that some games that were developed on newer dev hardware may not work or crash or whatever...
