I picked up a second hand Dreamcast today, cleaned it and fired up a few games. Unfortunately it seems to have a problem with reading. When I insert a disc and turn on the console, it takes me to the bios menu, the message "Please wait checking the disc" keeps coming up every few seconds. At first I thought it was a laser, but once I opened it and held my finger on the open/close lid switch it actually reads discs fine.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, how do I fix the eject switch? Soon as I put the top cover back on same thing happens. I've cleaned the dust and nothing appears to be broken, etc.

    Thanks :D

You can take it apart completely and wash the case to remove completely all the grease and dust.

Try to do a test with the case of another dreamcast, I suspect that the top has a broken part.
See also if everything is perfectly keyed and screwed, and if the open/close lid switch is with broken weld.

    I hope that resolves.

Thanks for your reply. In the end I just ended up using a bit of tape on the top case where the eject lid pushes back the plastic bit sensor on the motherboard. It now works alright

    Very good, Pikmin! :D
So it was just a internal part worn of the case. \o/

It didn't look worn when I opened it up but wasn't pushing it back enough, so that extra bit of tape did the trick. Ty :D
