I came across this article today and while it sounds legit ... I'm wondering if it's an April fools joke. Unfortunately, Sega.com's website has been down for maintenance and Sega Facebook has no updates on this. Per the article; Sega will release their own Steam Box system as a Dreamcast with controller and support for VMU. The article also notes that Sega plans on releasing the complete Dreamcast library and it will be exclusive to this Dreamcast system. The console will also play all PC games on Steam. At the end of the article there seemed to be a hint that new games may be developed. Release date is for next year - April 1, 2016. It's the date of this "announcement" and the "release date" that makes me question the validity of this. Not looking for confirmation - just sharing. If its true .. that would be awesome. Article: Sega Announces Dreamcast Steam Box
It's got to be a complete fake and just an April fools joke. Sega isn't in the best financial position right now so making a console or Steam Box would drive them bankrupt.
It's almost certainly fake, but Sega should totally get a PC maker on board for that. I'm not sure, but I think that Alienware Alpha might even be smaller than a Dreamcast.
If it happened, it better use a region-free BIOS and have the Broadband Adapter built-in. Also, it would need a GD-ROM drive and Dreamcast controller ports with VMU support to be perfect. Maybe they could release the Sega Potato 2.0 with more storage space than the typical Sega Potato 1.0 (VMU), but still have VMU features.
This is obviously BS, besides vendor-locking steam releases to a specific steambox manufacturer makes no sense.
