Hello all. I've owned a couple of sega demo units before. All the documentation online and reputable Sega sites, wikis say the ds-16 is for sure not capable of playing sram equipped games like sonic 3. Like others I'm sure, I confirmed that true for myself by trying to play sonic 3 in them. I imported a new ds-16 from Italy this year and was testing it today and sure enough sonic 3 played as did all the games I had that support saves. I was really surprised. Can anyone else confirm who has a demo unit if sonic 3 plays? There is definitely misinformation floating around reputable sites.

I think it might be that they will play, but they won't save to the SRAM.

Many reported sonic 3 as not playable on the ds-16. Theres a thread on here as well that sonic dude made trying to figure out the lines and make a schematic of it with the purpose of figuring out why sram games won't load.

    Say, wasn't Sonic 3 battery-backed?

Sonic & Knuckles isn't battery backed either. It only uses a battery when it's plugged into Sonic 3. Then it uses Sonic 3's battery.

Wow, non-volatile memory shared with two carts during the early 90s. I wouldn't have expected that.
