I didn't even know you could still get repairs but apparently, come September, that's no more. http://kotaku.com/gaming/sega/sega-finally-disowns-dreamcast-saturn-248764.php It'll probably apply to Naomi as well, I suppose, especially after all that GD-ROM business. Ah well, we knew it was bound to happen, I suppose.
I wonder how many Saturns and Dreamcasts they repaired during 2006? Can't imagine anyone seriously sending their Saturn back for repairs a decade after buying it.
Hopefully my Saturn doesn't break a few years down the line...nor does my Dreamcast. But then again, I could emulate that stuff easily.
It's just another extra step SEGA is doing before they fully drop support of its hardware (mostly the Dreamcast). It might be a while till you see a 'near perfect' Saturn emulator, although there is the promising Yabause emulator by BlueCrab.
argh! SSF 008 (updated march 2007!) is the best Saturn emu out there. To prove my point, i just spent about 3 hours playing Panzer Dragoon Saga on it at full speed. My brain is mush now ><
I like how people are like "OMG now if my shit breaks I'm screwed!" Everyone I know either uses a console for parts when it dies or gets rid of it.
Bluey only handles the DC port. The Windows, Linux and OSX ports are far more useful right now and downright nice. Though I still won't give up my boxed saturn and chipped model 2.
And by Bluecrab's own admission, it'll never be anything close to full speed. More's the pity. YABAUSE = Yet Another Buggy And Unfinished Saturn Emulator, incidentally. Hopefully that name becomes an amusing contradiction.
Whoa, fo' reals? I mean what about the other PD games? or heavy 3D games like Nights, BR, LB? it does run those in full speed?h:
nights is playable but it does get slow at parts. I do have Zwei here, but didn't try it. Sonic Jam runs near-full speed too. Azel (Saga) plays fine and it's as addictive as ever. For all those who havent played that masterpiece, get yourself SSF 008 and download the .isos or something. You don't know what you're missing!
I've been playing it recently, and you can add my voice to all the others saying it's fantastic. Only took me a couple of hours to plough through the first disc, though, so the reports of it being a bit short are probably going to prove accurate.
