I was wondering, what hell happened to some great Sega franchises, that are simply forgotten. It appears that Sega now only rellies on Sonic (and now their best seller Sonic & Mario olympics XP). We have seen a crapy revival of Nights for the Wii, but what about games like Panzer Dragon RPG, Burning Rangers, Shenmue, etc? Bringing new IP nowadays are much more risk than in the 16 & 32 bit era. But still, Sega really dont see any profit in making new sequels for those games?
I'm probably in the minority here but I think it would be interesting to see what SEGA could do with 'Night Trap'. Now that there are next to no limitations on what todays leading platforms can do maybe a remake would actually be quite a good idea as sadly the games potential was never fully realized as the original release hardware was woefully underspecced. I'd also like new versions of: Virtua Cop Manx TT Superbike Clockwork Knight Baku Baku Animal Samba De Amigo - the Wii version was shit but a Kinect version could be fantastic Power Drift
Sega its a placeholder name these days, like those old comics companies that were bought by big movie studios so they can use a know name for a POS movie that has next to nothing from the original story arc. Shenmue given the disaster it was in terms of sales will never get a real sequel, ever At best someone will use the name for a japanese GTA clone, which would be a disgrace BR, the problem is that next to nobody knows that name since that game came at the wrong time and for the wrong console Panzer dragoon, well look at Project Draco...
Some series that we associate with Sega aren't actually owned by them. Sega promoted the Guardian Heroes HD release recently, but that's actually a Treasure property that was nearly ignored when they revived it briefly on the Gameboy Advance. Rez and Gunstar Heroes are other notable examples. I would like to see another Shenmue as much as the next hardcore gamer, but the franchise I really want to see revived is Shining Force. The Genesis games keep getting rereleased in various collections, but the fact that the second and third episodes of Shining Force III didn't get translated for western markets is still an awful crime.
After what they did to Nights, do you really want them to try with their other great franchises of the past?
Alex Kidd is a well known one that died with the introduction of the Genesis. At least to my knowledge. Sega has quite a bit of IP that they don't bother to use anymore with some of it seeing light in emulation collections they released. I'm not too sure I'd want to see a sequel to Comix Zone. Maybe a remake if done right as comic books are seeing a huge resurgence across the board. They did try out Altered Beast with the last attempt SUCKING HUGE DONKEY BALLS. I'm a bit saddened they canned Vectorman but on the other hand it really wasn't Vectorman. At least not the orb based humanoid we all know and love.
I think Alex Kidd would be awesome remake as long as they don't screw it up with too many gimmicks the Mega Drive Version wasn't too bad in my opinion. I think companies should rehash old games like Sonic, Alex Kidd and Donkey Kong and turn them into like the New super Mario Brothers. Or even having games like Sonic 1,2,3 and Knuckles or even the Donkey Kong Series as one big epic adventure not 3 seperate games. Old School gameplay newstyle graphics huge replayability. Meh I can dream.
Where art thou Alex Kidd, Alien Storm, Bonanza Brothers, Hang On or Wonder Boy (amongst others)? Forget all this Shenmue and Panzer Dragon talk as they have a recent(ish) history and they are hardly forgotten. The reason they are not out there is due to their large budgets, their relatively recent releases and the crap that Sega spat out such as Iron Man 2 etc. Some of the above haven't seen sequels for a decade, two decades or even at all

Well yes, I enjoyed Shining Force EXA and Shining Force Neo. But the complaint about those PS2 games stands today, that they were Diablo clones and not SRPGs as everybody expected. See also the new X-com shooter. Imagine if somebody licensed the Dungeons and Dragons property for a dating game. Would its core fans buy it? I love all game genres and styles, but I associate the Shining Force series specifically with grid-based strategy and tactics. They had the Shining Wisdom and Shining in the Darkness standing as separate games in the same continuity to explore different aspects of RPGs. That Sega reused the Shining Force brand in that way means that they don't count, in my mind.
Hang-On would be an awesome game to re-release. It is pretty sad to see SEGA in the darkness, a lot of SEGA fans want them back without making mediocre Sonic titles. Many people want Daytona USA as in a new Daytona USA much like Sega Rally Revo. Maybe one day, maybe never
I want better story lines in the latter games. They seem to drop good stories for better eye candy. It is one reason I am not too concerned that they don't continue some of the older story lines.
I lived in an era where SEGA was huge, both in arcade and home console games. Still, games like OutRun 2 and After Burner Climax shows how good they can be when they try it. But they seem to keep all other fantastic franchises in a vault or something. Such a shame.
Here here, I'm all for a new Shinning Force game (not that I will be able to play it, but that's beside the point. :crying Was the new After Burner they released year ago?? any good? From the video it looks like it's easier then After Burner II. =hugh
