I've seen this mod all over the place, but I can't seem to find any information on how to actually do it. I would like to add a controller port to my Game Gear to allow me to play using a Master System controller or (even better) a Genesis controller. I would like to semi-consolize it. I'm getting one of those TV out boards, and plan on having it usable as either a handheld (with the game gear controls) or a console (with a dedicated controller). If anyone could help me out, or point me to where I can find info on this, that'd be awesome.

    Thanks!

The easiest way is to simply tap off the main board where the control pads contacts are. Best to use a multi-meter to determine which is the ground connection and "action" connection. You can then follow the trace in further to see if there are suitable points. It's pretty easy, compared to installing the TV out board so you should find it easy once you start looking.

To activate the "Start" button you can use the same modification as the Master System controller pause mod as found here.

I use a modified Mega Drive control pad (it was dead) for my consolised GG and Master System 2.

You can also add a 2nd controller port off the EXT port.

Excuse the nechrobump ,but If I were to just want to play game gear games and nothing more would tapping a controller port from the ext port work as controller 1 in gg mode? If I have to run wire from the normal buttons why can't I just run wires from the pad of the start button in the gg and mount a tactile switch in my sms controller?

1/I don't believe so, you would need to take it from the control pads.

2/you could but you would need to run the wires externally. If you follow the smspower link, it is the same mod.
