    Hello,

First of all,, Sorry for my English

I have a problem with my Game Gear
I have tried to solder new caps to my Game Gear, but one solder pad (C55 minus pad) is gone.
Someone told me to solder a wire, but i do not know where to?

    Can you help me?

    Best regards
    Martijn

    Hey Martijn,

    Couple of things -

1: The bad caps in a Game Gear can also leave behind some pretty nasty electrolytic fluid residue on the board - and that is what you often have to thank for pads lifting as well as bad traces. The red stuff is glue that they use for holding the caps in place, but dark black/green-looking stuff at the solder pads *really* should be cleaned up first prior to soldering in new capacitors. If the caps don't have a good path to the traces (and therefore, components) that they need to connect to, they aren't going to do anything.

2: After proper clean-up, follow the trace from what used to be the C55 minus pad to see what component it bridged to the now-missing solder pad. solder a wire from the negative leg of the cap to that component. Make sure you immobilize or insulate the leg/wire solder joint to prevent it from shorting against any of the surrounding components.

With the board oriented the way it is in your image, it *looks* like the trace goes from C55 negative to the top pad of R45. You should examine the trace on your board to make sure that is the case. If so, you can use that wire attach point for the negative side of your new capacitor to the top of R45. Again - please verify on your board.

yep, it does go to R45. I've had this trace dissolve before too. Clean your board and solder one wire as shown.

Need better pictures. It's basically a case of following the trace, scrape away solder mask and solder (that's solder with a VERY BIG L..soLder) the leg.
