Not sure if this is common knowledge but just thought i'd share my findings.

i've decided to Consolize a SEGA Game Gear, as i have a spare game gear with broken plastics.

Other than the General caps that leak everywhere on the Game Gear which is common knowledge. when i plugged the board in to test it, there was a strange smell coming from the power board, and one of the caps was leaking nasty electrolytic fluid out the bottom.

the caps on the power PCB are not the SMD/SMT ones like on the rest of the console, they're standard radial EL caps.

I removed all 3 caps and two were leaking the worst was the 100uf 25v (C11) the corrosion has actually eaten away at the board itself. this unit has been stored in a box and kept in a closet for a few years.

Symptoms were: Dead no life, nasty funky smell, not burning.

    the 3 caps are:

    100uf 25v (C11 left of large cap)
    22uf 35v(C5 closest power jack)
    820uf 6.3v (C13 largest cap)

    Power PCB is: 837-7997 (1991 171-6102A)
Main Board is: 837-7996 IC BD GG MAIN EUROPE(1991 171-6101A) 2 chip made in japan
    Audio board is: 837-7998 (1991 171-6103A)

    Model No 2110-50

Just a heads up if you got a Game Gear in storage, or not being used or dead completely. there was no other corrosion eg no battery leakage etc.
I have not yet replaced the caps to see if this will fix the problem, as I'll be replacing all the caps at once so need to put an order in for the ones i dont have

i'd never seen this before and i've repaired a good few GGs as i said may be common knowledge already.

i'll update the thread once i've replaced the caps, just throwing this up incase it helps someone else.
