Seems great. Till they price it. Anyway, i think the Revolution (or Go!) will be a retrogamer dream. It's already on my wishlist.
Oh my god! that's what happen when you stop using internet for a day! Man! Thats really great news! I hope Snk step in too!
Wasn't this hinted at a while ago? Anyways, I'm w/ Johnny. They will want way too much. Even Sega, who has embraced emulation with even pay downloads, charges way too much.
Heard about this at work today, excellent news. Let's hope we get some games that were never released on this side of the pond. I'm hoping against hope that some of the classic games with be adapted to internet play, like say co-op Golden Axe or Final Fight. That would rule so much.
SNES and MegaDrive/Genesis on the Rev, awesome i think i won't buy any rev game in the first 3 months
Some issues occured to me - will third party publishers sign up to this system? Nintendo, Sega et al can't just release games onto the emulation thing, not unless they own the copyrights involved. Some licenses might not allow the release of particular games via this method either - I seem to remember there being issues with rereleases for games that were only licensed for a particular console. How will Nintendo approach publishers in the USA and more critically (in my view, since they don't usually seem to give a toss) Europe? Also, many publishers that were around when the SNES and Megadrive were kings have either been bought out or have vanished. How will those games be released, or won't they? A lot of questions need to be answered in my opinion, rather than some vague idea of what we can expect. Also, what about games that were published on both the Megadrive and the SNES? Will Nintendo force publishers to favour the SNES version? Not all games on the SNES were superior when it comes to multi-format releases. I want Mortal Kombat with the blood code!
SoJ most likely has a lot of PC-Engine (and of course) MegaDrive licenses. This same idea was in fact a reality on the Japanese Dreamcast, entitled Dream Library. I don't recall the list, but they were very good about offering roms of very rare games. I know Alien Solider and Magical Chase were on there. Alien Soldier, Sega published... but not Magical Chase, or any other PC-E game for that matter. The kicker was, it was 300 yen for 3 days. It stored the ROM in RAM. If you turned it off, you lost it, but could download as many times as you wanted for 3 days. I hope this doesn't give Nintendo the idea that they can continue w/ their dipshit 2 games a month release schedule and actually gain any respect.
Well it was predicted to be, after all SEGA was planing to offer an emulation pack for Zodiac and other PDAs, and there's that arcade service (from turner?) that has a ton of Genesis games, and some of them are in the Top 10 charts. Nah, first you have to pay for those games, and casuals (ex: not us) would rather go to any w4r3z site and download illegal ROMs. Then there's the fact that X360 is ready to do the same, and if the revo virtual console ends up being sucessful you can bet MS will rip the idea in a minute.
... and the Need for Speed games? Point is you can't just look at the retro games on a system and say "hey, it's a retro system". I could point to Alien Hominid and Metal Slug 3 on the Xbox and say - Xbox, not for casual gamers (stupid term, incidentally, since it's pretty rare that anyone fits solely into "hardcore" or "casual", even if we manage to agree on what such terms mean). Not to mention most "casual gamers" I've met wouldn't have a clue what an emulator is. That aside, you're comparing an old handheld with a new console. Not exactly like for like, is it?
i was more talking about Exitebike, Punch-Out!! or Gradius. Mario have an universal apeal, it was a remake, and it was on handheld.
That'd be interesting to see, the legal issues here would be particularly interesting, presumably they couldn't have anything Nintendo or on a Nintendo system (since it would arguably be emulating a console without the owners permisson). I think MS would find themselves in legal pergatory for some time if they tried this. Plus I think Nintendo are scooping up exclusives as much as they can now before MS realises the potential of what's going on.
