As the title says, I get no video from my Genesis 2. The sound plays just fine, but I can't seem to get the system to output a picture. I tried it with the official scart cable as well as with an rca cable. I also, already cleaned the cartridge slot and used a little bit of compressed air on the av port. The carts I used for testing have clean connectors as well.

Could one of the contacts inside the mini din av port have corroded? I didn't notice anything when I gave the pcb a quick once over, but is there anything I should keep an eye out for?

Ahh, that's no good to hear. Tried a different TV? It could be a dry / cracked solder joint, more common on the power plug, but I suppose it could happen to the AV port. Got any nice high resolution photos for us to all look over?

I won't say it's one of the big ASIC chips if you don't! :)

I haven't tried it on another TV, don't see how that would make a difference. One thing I didn't mention is that everything is hooked up to an xrgb-mini. Of course I have tried all the different sync settings on the mini.

    Anyway here are the pics:

XRGB mini is notorious for not liking signals from the genesis. might be a sync issue.

I tried it without the mini, but sadly that didn't change anything.
FYI, my Japanese Mega Drive 1 works well with the mini.

my VA3 MD1 wokrs well on my XRGB3 for the most part, but sometimes the cables make all the difference. if it has no video output at all, then it may be the encoder.

That's what I was afraid of. And If Shane McRetro is right and I need to replace both, the encoder as well as the vram chip, it's gonna get really messy.
And I'll probably go the extra mile and replace the av socket too.

You don't happen to know where I could source those chips, would you?

You can try a cap replacement, console5 sells a kit for like $4. I had a similar problem on a va1.8 and did this. It didn't fix it directly, but a cap had leaked and I had to repair some traces. I didn't notice until I removed the cap. Va1.8 is very forgiving with desoldering. Once you start ordering encoders and ram replacements, you quickly get into throw it in trash territory. Genesis 2 is not worth much.

Might as well give this a shot first. Thanks a lot for bringing it up.
