I picking up a lot of as is Genesi and am wondering about where to replace the controller ports if they are broken, ie resoldering doesn't help. What parts do I buy for a model 1 and model 2. I saw a repair video online where the maker had a bag of that and I would like to wonder where does one buy them? I checked eBay but the closest I could find were for the Atari 2600 and cost $7 a pop. I was wondering about any substitutes. I found this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/QTY-4-DB9-C...773?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d43f90135 but I'm not sure. I'm aware that I may need to buy voltage regulators and capacitors as well, but that's more easily found.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-pcs-Seri...litters_Couplers_Adapters&hash=item5d37637c79 I believe you could just wire them up if you want to do this cheaper....not really seen any mega drives/genesis with broken ports though
A DB9 connector just do the work, trying to find original port is too difficult but the one you put in the link work.
Just be careful as the "reach" of an atari controller port is different to a sega one. What i mean is it will sit further in (or out?) than the original so you won't be able to plug the controller in.
It's probably not the port itself, unless there are broken pins. You'd be better off using those machines for parts for the machines with working ports but other faults if you can't fix the issue cheaply.
