I am looking to play my Genesis some more soon and I really only have many 1 or 2 good controllers both are 3 button. I actually have atleast 2 of the 6 button pads but they're GARBAGE and the reason why is the D-Pad. It's very flimsy like and after not much use the D-Pad will stick in some positions and not be responsive like it should be. These are the 6 button pads with the Sega Logo, a slider switch with Normal, Turbo, and Slow positions. They're so horrible. The only good thing is they are 6 button and have a longer cord than the 3 button controllers.

So what are my options for a good controller? Does anywhere sell basically a Sega Saturn pad that is for Genesis?

What about the normal official 6 button MD pad? No rapid fire crap just a standard quality pad.

I think that's what he's talking about, some of the official 6-button ones have switches for autofire.

I'm thinking his must be fucked in some way though, all the official 6-button Megadrive pads I have are a joy to use.

If you mean you have the Sega 6 button pad that looks like this:-
    [IMG]
Its rubbish and is not really an 'official' Sega controller at all - its a third party clone controller that was re-manufactured by Majesco for the 'Genesis 3' console:-

Majesco just slapped a 'Sega' logo on it because they were licensed by Sega. Heres a picture of the third party controller mold they used:-

Look similar? As you can hopefully see, that controller is called a 'Super Pad' made by 'Performance' and is a poor clone of the official Asian model Sega 6 button controller (The Asian version featured smaller 'hand curves' than the American/European 6 button controller) just with a Slow/Turbo switch tacked on. The D-Pad is complete rubbish.

I would look out for an official Sega 6 button pad, the originals dont feature any turbo switches/buttons ;-)

I have one of those but I'd swear the d-pad is identical to my Mega-CD 6-button ones with the red start button. The buttons look wrong too.

If you like the Saturn (JP or MK2 US) controller/D-pad, then the non-turbo, proper Sega 6-button has the same.

Yeah, I have a couple of these and they're complete turds. I'm guessing they're still all over eBay and whatnot because you could get them for $5 a piece at Lik-Sang when it still existed.

link83, that's exactly the pad I meant. It really is garbage.

I'll have to look for an official Sega pad or something other than the Majesco garbage. Has anyone seen or heard of what looks like a cloned Sega Saturn pad but is for Genesis? I've seen the USB ones but apparently you can get them for Genesis if this one ebay seller is to be believed atleast. I really like the Saturn pad in your picture Alec, I have one I use on my Saturn and it's great. So having one that works with my Genesis would solve alot of issues.

I think I have one of the Sega type 6 button controllers (no turbo) as well but I'm not sure, if I did I imagine it broke or got lost.

I had one of them for the SFC but found he D-Pad to be a bit flat. The ASCII SFC pad was always the one for me. But back on topic, like others have said you really need the OFFICIAL japanese Mega Drive 6 button pad above anything. It feels very nice

the superpad isn't bad, it's not as good as the first party but probably one of the better third party ones.
